10 Reasons Why You Should Get A Pet, According to Gen Z’ers

Gen Z might just be the greatest generation on Earth (and not just because a fellow Gen Z’er is writing this article ????). While every generation is defined by a core set of values and characteristics, Gen Z has set the bar high by using their voice and social media to encourage acceptance, empathy, and change. Sometimes we all need a helping paw, and as Gen Z searches for a sense of normality and identity during this extraordinary time, a pet is a great addition to anyone’s home and here’s why!

Pets Add Therapy.

From cats and dogs to bunnies and lizards, pets are some of the best listeners around. Sometimes we all need a comforting paw—and pets are consistently delivering the love and friendship that profoundly supports us.

Pets Add Activity.

Need a little spring in your step? Gen Z knows just how important those 10,000 steps are, and it’s never been easier to achieve your goals with a pet that’s ready to explore the great outdoors with you! While some animals love a good snooze, most will let you know when they want some good old-fashioned activity—encouraging you to live a healthier and happier lifestyle.

Pets Add Company.

Picture this: you come home after a long day, only to find your roommate super excited to see you—but your roommate is your furry best friend! Pets have an amazing ability to keep us company no matter what we seem to be doing. Gen Z’ers especially know how loneliness can get the best of us sometimes: that’s why pets are the perfect remedy to let us know we’re never alone.

Pets Add Joy.

Ask yourself: how does it feel to interact with a truly special animal? We all know that pets can melt even the coldest hearts, leading us to believe that pets bring out the best in each and every one of us. Horse lovers and fish aficionados alike agree that pets bring them a deep sense of joy—from taking care of your animal to the outstanding bond and happiness they introduce into our lives.

Pets Add Friends.

During the COVID-19 era, we have not been able to connect with our friends in the same ways. Yet, when we introduce a pet into our lives, we also introduce them to our friends too—via Zoom, text, Facetime, or the power of social media. Pets not only have the capability to connect us to others, but to the community of like-minded pet owners who can teach us so much.

Pets Add Family.

There’s a reason most people don’t adopt a pet from a shelter and return them a year later: the pet has become a part of the family! When you adopt a pet, you not only welcome your home to them, but your heart as well. It won’t be long before they’ve stolen it—and we’re here for that!

Pets Add Sight.

When it seems like no one else does, a pet sees you. Whether it’s anxiety for the future or processing a challenging past, a pet sees their human for who they really are with unconditional love and acceptance. With just one look, we feel a sense of support from our pets—and that’s a pretty powerful thing!

Pets Add Commitment.

Don’t worry—both early rising and night owl Gen Z’ers have found their perfect match, no matter what their lifestyle might look like. Better yet, pets have the amazing ability to hold us accountable and keep us on track (their livelihood depends on it)! We know some dogs in your area are in need of your early morning runs, just like we know some friendly cats that need their nighttime Netflix relaxation time. You want it? They got it!

Pets Add Likes.

Gen Z’ers know just how important having a positive relationship with social media is—that’s why we choose to fill our feeds with things that matter. Our generation has taken the social media world by storm, and so have our pets! No matter what kind of pet you’re looking for, there’s a social media community ready to accept you and your animal, as well as encourage you to start posting pics of your forever BFF.

Pets Add Life.

Every pet owner will tell you—their animal has changed their life for the better. Dogs, cats, horses, birds, scaly friends and cute critters all promote change in their humans—adding a sense of responsibility, friendship, and life-long connection to their lives.
