Friday is Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Get Fido’s briefcase and memo pads ready because Friday, June 20, is Take Your Dog to Work Day! Created to celebrate the unparalleled companionship dogs provide and in turn, prompt adoptions, Take Your Dog to Work Day is honored among thousands of businesses across the nation – and for good reason! Pets in the work place help reduce stress, encourage longer work hours but prompt short, necessary breaks, and increase camaraderie among coworkers. According to the 2013/2014 National Pet Owners Survey, more than one million dogs are brought to work with their owner daily, but that doesn’t mean every dog is office-ready. Below are some tips that can help you and your pal celebrate Take Your Dog to Work Day.

Be considerate – Before bringing your dog in, make sure nobody in your direct vicinity has allergies or strong aversions toward dogs.

Be aware – You know your dog best, and while some pups may love all the attention and goings-on, some may be overwhelmed and anxious. Make sure you are attuned to your dog’s signs and be his relief if he needs a break.

Be prepared – You can’t expect to bring your dog to a space intended for humans, without any of his own stuff and have an enjoyable, content day. It’s important to have things for Fido to chew, play with, and lay on when bringing him to work. Bring his favorite toys or bone and a bed or blanket from home, water bowl and plenty of food and treats of course.
