How To Throw a Proper Puppy Shower!

Yesterday we posted pictures from a puppy shower we hosted for our co-worker Brooke. She is the proud new owner of the white Labrador named Napili, who we post pictures of every now and then.

Around the PAL office we take pets pretty seriously, as you could imagine. So, we decided to throw a surprise puppy shower for the new momma! The party was so much fun, and Brooke and Napili loved it!

Here’s how you can throw your own puppy shower!

Baby Napili is a girl, so pink and yellow seemed like natural choices for theme colors. We ordered a package of cups, plates and napkins from a party supplies website, and even got custom cupcake toppers that read “Napili’s Puppy Shower!” as a special touch. Of course, it’s not a party without streamers and balloons, so we put up plenty!

For refreshments the entire menu was given dog-related titles. Chex Mix was dubbed “Puppy Chow,” Lil Smokies prepared in a crock pot were “Hot Doggies,” and though the cupcakes were for humans only, we called them “Pupcakes”!

However, the talk of the party (beside puppy Napili, that is) was the “Puppy Poop Haystacks,” known to some as No-Bake Cookies. Strategically placed on a small piece of fake grass, the scene was a little too realistic to look appetizing for some of our party guests. But once guests mentally moved past the presentation, they discovered these cookies were actually quite delicious.

We couldn’t forget about treats for the guest of honor! Someone brought homemade dog treats that the dogs loved! The treats are very easy to make, you can get the recipe here. We’v posted about homemade pet treats before, so take a look for more ideas! For our party the treats were made into dog shapes, and packaged up as a takeaway for our guests!

It’s the small details that help send a party over the top. Simple things, like printing out title cards for the food and using neon straws for the drinks helped turn this puppy shower from “small work gathering” into a memorable party!

One of our Facebook fans, Kate Smith, had the idea of hosting a “Bark-Mitzvah” for her dog who is about to turn 13 years old! We loved this idea! You could take the same concepts from our puppy shower for any pet party you’re thinking about hosting!

Have you had a pet party before? We would love to see pictures, and you can share more ideas in the comments below or on our Facebook wall!
