August is Adopt a Homeless Pet Month!

Pet overpopulation is a growing problem. There are a number of contributing factors for overpopulation, including pets being relinquished by owners who can no longer care for them and pets not being spayed and neutered, which increases the chance of reproduction and decreases the chance of finding a loving home.

Research suggests that 7 to 20 percent of pets entering a home are no longer in that home six months later. These pets often end up in shelters where numerous cats and dogs are euthanized every year because of a lack of loving homes and an abundance of deserving pets.

So, what can you do to help?

  1. Spay and neuter your pets
  2. If you’re thinking about bringing a pet into your home, consider adoption
  3. Make sure you can adequately care for a pet before bringing one home
  4. Educate your family and friends about the issue and share these tips

In an effort to raise awareness of this growing problem, we are hosting a photo contest to honor those who have adopted a pet and continue to provide a loving home. To enter, visit our Facebook page, find the contest link in our newsfeed and follow the easy instructions.
